Earlier today New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks talked about a questionable hit delivered to Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson. In his remarks, Larry Brooks called out the NHL for not caring for all players equally.

Last week during the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers game a hit by Sam Reinhart caused major controversy. The Panthers star came in and delivered what looked to be an elbow to New York Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson.

Brutal elbow by Reinhart on Gus. ... He was very slow to the bench. #NYR

Erik Gustafsson would head back to the bench in obvious discomfort. Since he left the ice he has not returned to the New York Rangers lineup. With Erik Gustafsson now facing a significant injury due to this hit a New York Rangers reporter has come to his defense in the form of Larry Brooks.

Legendary Larry Brooks comes to the defense of Erik Gustafsson and rips the NHL

This afternoon New York Rangers reporter and insider spoke about the incident that has caused Erik Gustafsson's absence. He called out the NHL and the Department of Player Safety for not caring about the well-being of players at Erik Gustafsson's star level.

I guess Erik Gustafsson isn't important enough for George Parros and the NHL Department of Player Safety to protect.

The longtime NHL reporter makes an interesting point in recent years it does seem like a lot of the suspensions handed out by the DoPS come after stars are impacted. Either way, this incident clearly did not reach the threshold for punishment according to George Parros and the NHL.

One has to wonder what level of injury or dangerous play has to occur for a star like Sam Reinhart to receive a hearing this close to the playoffs.
