It may seem like the clock has run out for veteran forward on the Penguins, but it has only begun..

Rakell has time to turn it around

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in for a tough few years as the Jake Guentzel trade has officially delinquished their role as playoff contenders on a yearly basis. Rickard Rakell who has been the scapegoat in Pittsburgh for his disappointing season.

The Swedish forward has the perfect opportunity to turn things around. Rakell has 27 points in 52 games this season, consisting of injuries, inconsistency and trade speculation. With the season almost over, let's flip the page. Rakell can turn it around next year entering his fourth season as a Penguin.

Number 67 will be a poised vet who can help guide the younger Penguins next season while also improving his offensive numbers in hopes of rebounding his career. Then on, he can potentially be a trade chip in a trade benefiting both the Penguins and Rakell, who can go play for a playoff contender.

We have seen this before, in the 2020-21 season with the Anaheim Ducks, Rakell had a lacklustre season having 27 points in 52 games, identical to his current stats. The next year in 2021-22, Rakell exploded scoring 20+goals and continuing the pace just until last season.

The potential is there, and patience is key between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Richard Rakell.
