There was a lot of salty Penguins fans and news reports after people tend to believe Kyle Dubas got a ridiculously underwhelming return for their star player Jake Guentzel in their trade with the Carolina Hurricanes. In the deal, the Penguins got back 3 mid tier prospects, but one of them is standing out and may be the consolation prize in this trade.

Koivunen named one of the league's best prospects

While the 3 prospects traded in the Jake Guentzel deal weren't the top 5 in the Hurricanes pipeline, it does not mean that the Penguins did not get a good prospect. It's important to note that the Hurricanes probably have one of the best prospect pipelines in the NHL, with a lot of depth.

In Bob Mckenzie's recent NHL prospect ranking, newly acquired Penguin prospect Ville Koivunen was named 34th best prospect currently on an NHL organization. Rightfully so, the finnish prospect has 56 points in 59 games this season with Karpat, in the top finnish professional hockey league! At 20 years old, he may very well be a Pittsburgh Penguins by next season with his stellar performances!
