It was speculated that former Penguins forward Jake Guentzel would possibly return to Pittsburgh after his contract expires with Carolina. A move was learned about today that might squash that dream.

It was confirmed that Jake Guentzel and his wife sold their home in the suburbs northwest of Pittsburgh to Bryan Rust and his wife Kelsey. The house was sold to the couple for $2.125 million. That was the same price Guentzel bought the home for in 2022.

Jake Guentzel helped Carolina maintain their spot in the playoffs after he was traded with Ty Smith for Michael Bunting and other prospects and picks before the trade deadline. He had scored 8 goals and 17 assists in 17 games with the Hurricanes. Carolina finished just behind the NY Rangers with 111 points for second in the East.

Both Bunting and Guentzel seemed to do well on their new teams. Bunting contributed 6 goals and 13 assists in 21 games with the Penguins. Buntings contributions with his wall play and net presence helped the Penguins win down the streak and almost secure a playoff spot.

There is still a very outside chance that Kyle Dubas would sign the free agent Guentzel. With that new and probably much larger contract, Guentzel would be able to afford a much larger home.

We will just wait and see, but it looks like Jake is keeping his options open for all takers come July 1st and not leaving any ties to any location.
