The Pittsburgh Penguins have place defenseman Ryan Shea on waivers this afternoon.

In 31 games played for the Penguins this year, Ryan Shea only produced one goal. Shea did compile 24 hits, 24 blocks and 17 shots.

Shea joined the Penguins this past offseason signing a one-year contract for $775,000.

Ryan Shea was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015 but never signed a deal with the team. He played four years of NCAA hockey with Northeastern, and was the team captain his senior year in 2019-2020.

Shea was then signed to an entry-level deal with the Dallas Stars, spending a total of three years in the organization, playing mostly for the Texas Stars in the AHL.

He was recalled three times for a total of 10 games at the NHL level, but never played a game for Dallas.

If Shea does clear waivers, he will be joining Jack St. Ivany, Valtteri Puustinen and Radim Zohorna in Wilkes-Barre as they look to contend for the Calder Cup.
