The Vancouver Canucks took a 1-0 series lead against the Nashville Predators on Sunday. However, starting goaltender Thatcher Demko suffered a minor injury in the game, forcing the team to turn to former Penguins netminder Casey DeSmith for game two.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported earlier today that Demko was injured at some point in game one. Notably, he did finish the game. However, he also confirmed that he will not get the start for game two tonight, and he is questionable for the remainder of the series against Nashville.

Hearing Thatcher Demko injured and questionable for rest of series

The insider later went on the Pat McAfee show, providing some more nuance to the situation. He did note that the team was still being guarded about his status given that it is the playoffs, but he did learn that the injury sustained in game one was entirely new, and not related to an injury the netminder sustained late in the regular season.

"Thatcher Demko isn't gonna play tonight and I've been told that he's questionable for the rest of the series..

I'm told that it's a new injury and it's not related to a previous one" ~

For now, it is Casey DeSmith's time to shine. We will just have to see how he does in his playoff debut with the team tonight.
