Pittsburgh Penguins reportedly top landing spot for Sheldon Keefe

Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe might have a new landing spot this off-season with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

While Keefe was fired just days ago from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, there has been rampant speculation about where his new NHL gig may be where his former Leafs general manager and friend ended up.



However, the issue that is in the way is the Penguins' longtime and current head coach Mike Sullivan, who they don't plan on firing anytime soon.




The Penguins are looking for an assistant to replace Todd Reidern and a new head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Keefe, should he return to the AHL, would be a strong candidate to push Wilkes-Barre to new heights. However, he will likely find a head coaching position elsewhere in the NHL.



Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe go way back, both were a part of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL, they have a friendship and connection that dates back to 2012. The two reunited again in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies where Keefe and Dubas brought a Calder Cup to the organization.



Their latest stop together was the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL. Keefe only lasted one year without Dubas in the general manager position of the team.



This has led to rampant speculation that the two will reunite, and Sheldon Keefe getting hired anywhere other than the Pittsburgh organization seems unlikely as the connection between Dubas and Keefe can't be denied.
