The Penguins have had a disappointing season all-around in the organization. For individual players though, some have had good years while others have not. Today, the team dashed the hopes of one of their prospects.

Penguins Demote Young Defenseman Back To AHL

The team announced this afternoon that they have demoted defenseman Jack St. Ivany back to the AHL. The team recently recalled him on an emergency basis, but he has yet to make his NHL debut. Now it seems like he may have to wait another season before he gets that special moment.

The Penguins have re-assigned defenseman Jack St. Ivany to the @WBSPenguins.

Ivany was drafted in the 4th round by the Penguins in the 2018 draft. The 24-year-old Has never been known for his offensive upside, but he is considered a reliable stay-at-home guy. This season he has 4 goals and 12 points in 53 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.

Sullivan Praises Young Defenseman For Penalty Kill Contributions

All of that being said, it seems like the Penguins still like the young blueliner enough that he should get a chance with the NHL club at some point. Head coach Mike Sullivan discussed his game, giving him credit for being a good defensive defenseman that can contribute on the penalty kill.

While Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is playing tonight, the Penguins do not play until tomorrow, potentially giving the team a chance to call him back up to play back-to-back nights. We will just have to wait to see if he gets his chance tomorrow.
