The Pittsburgh Penguins hopes of a playoff berth continue to grow after a huge win against another playoff and division rival the New Jersey Devils.

The Penguins were able to come together, fight off illnesses in the locker room, and secure a big win with five goals in the third period to beat New Jersey. With this win, the chances of making the playoffs are not all that far fetched anymore.

According to moneypuck.com,the Penguins have a 15.1% chance of making the playoffs now. They jumped over the Devils who now only have a 1.9% chance themselves.

In fact, with the Penguins facing the Washington Capitals in what is now one of the most important games of the year, there odds could increase with a regulation win to approximately 23.8%. The Penguins are just 3 points behind the second wild card spot held by the Capitals. The Pens gained those two points on the Caps with the help of the Buffalo Sabres defeating the Capitals last night 6-2.

In other wild card race action, the Islanders were able to keep their two-point lead of the Penguins, defeating the Blackhawks 2-1.

The Penguins will have a off day today before they play the Washington Capitals on the road Thursday night. Hopefully they will be able to get the sick players healthy and continue this important win streak.
