With the aging centre core of the Pittsburgh Penguins with Jeff Carter retiring and an aging Sidney Crosby, perhaps it may be time for Evgeni Malkin to move to the wing with the anticipation of signing a younger centre in this year's stacked NHL free agency class coming on July 1st.

It's no secret that Malkin is not the same player he was five years ago, or even three years ago, with one of his most disappointing seasons yet. With his aging, he's getting slower which is causing him to lack the 200 ft game needed to fulfill in the centre role. Kingerski, NHL insider has suggested that Malkin moves to the wing, a less intense role, to make room for an NHL free agent coming in 2024.

If the Penguins want to remain competitive given their aging core as said by Kyle Dubas, adding a top centre in free agency may be the route with the class being stacker than ever.

On July 1st, an abundance of free agents will be at the disposal, such as Sam Reinhart of the Florida Panthers, Chandler Stephenson of the Vegas Golden Knights, Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
