Penguins Forward Has Huge Opportunity Due to Injuries

There is many reasons for the Penguins to be panicking and devasted regarding Jake Guentzel recent injury..

For one, he has been arguably the Pens best player this season with the winger having 52 points in 50 games in his contract year.

Also, with him set to being a UFA, and the Penguins playoff hopes slipping away, It was very possible that the Penguins were looking to trade Guentzel assuming that he would be the number one trade target on the trade boards and would receive a haul. They can still trade Guentzel but maybe not for the price they would have received initially before the sudden upper body injury keeping him out long term. Speaking of trade deadlines, there is someone who was acquired by the Penguins two years ago at the deadline who has a huge chance to step up for the already defeated Penguins team.

Rakell has big opportunity in final stretch

Richard Rakell will be one to benefit with the injury of star Jake Guentzel. He will be promoted to the first power play unit of the Penguins alongside Sidney Crosby, Bryan Rust, Kris Letang and company. Rakell has the chance to turn his disappointing season around. The former 30 goal scorer has just 5 goals this season in 40 games. Hopefully he can turn it around when the Penguins need him the most and recreate his production from the 2022-23 season ending with 60 points.

Tough times in Pittsburgh but a big test regarding adversity.
