The Penguins are most probably out of the playoff frame after their lackluster of a season so far, even after acquiring Erik Karlsson in a blockbuster deal to try and win one last time with their current core.
According to an insider, the Penguins GM Kyle Dubas has layed down the framework for their plans as they are set to restructure the Penguins organization. The insider stated, that Dubas is willing to trade anyone on the Penguins roster, apart from their core players.Lack of clarity for sure, because who would we clarify as core players on this roster? Crosby, Malkin, Karlsson and Letang? Do we include Bryan Rust and Tristan Jarry?
It is important to consider that if Dubas doesn't trade those guys, he wouldn't get much of a return other than a Jake Guentzel trade.
If the shop someone like Bryan Rust or Erik Karlsson on retained salary, that is when we would start to see a much better return.
Trading away bottom 6 or unimpactful roster players will net you subpar returns, which would be the reason that the Penguins would be putting themselves in a tough position in the future.
Dubas may have to consider trading one of their core players for the greater good of the Penguins organization.
More details to come.
