Four off-season free-agent targets for the Pittsburgh Penguins

Published May 11, 2024 at 6:40 PM

Ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins 2024-25 season, they have lots of work to do this off-season and are likely to be very active on July 1st when free agency opens.

Anthony Duclair tops the list as a likely depth candidate who can break out in a top-six role for the Penguins should he be given the opportunity. Duclair was traded to Tampa Bay from San Jose at the trade deadline and will likely need a new home in free agency.

Sean Walker is second on the list and even though the Penguins should be focused on their bottom-six, they are likely to need another addition to their defense core. Walker is currently with the Colorado Avalanche as a pure rental and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the Avalanche season.

Should Jake DeBrusk hit the free agency market, the Pittsburgh Penguins have to target him. Should the 27-year-old join the Penguins core, he would be an incredible addition to the team and enable flexibility on the roster.

Finally, Sean Monahan is likely to hit the free agency market should he not come to terms with the Winnipeg Jets on a new contract. Monahan has stayed within Canadian markets and could opt to try the American scene for once, but his love and eagerness to stay in Canada could present a significant barrier in negotiations.

All four players likely will give Pittsburgh a listen, but most likely will not sign with the team, but it never hurts to hope.
