Malkin Gives Speech Apologizing To Penguins Fans For Inadequate Play
last night, the team lost 6-0 as they were thoroughly defeated by the Washington Capitals. The loss was their fourth in their last five games. "(Thursday) night, it's not a great night for us. I want to say sorry to fans because they paid (for) tickets. They come to the rink. And they see this game. It's not great. We need to play harder for sure. We know it's tough. It's not fun. It's 21 games left. We (need to) just play hard, play for the fans. Maybe a couple new guys will give us energy. Who knows? Maybe now after the trade deadline the guys will not feel pressure anymore and play a little more relaxed and everybody plays better. Who knows? We still believe have not a big chance but we have a chance to make the playoffs."
Penguins Playoff Hopes Diminished After Guentzel Trade
All of that being said, it would be quite optimistic to suggest the Penguins have a legitimate chance at the playoffs. Now that Guentzel has been traded, the team's chances at making the playoffs are very slim, at best.
Furthermore, the trade indicates that the team's front office is not convinced that they can make the playoffs this year. This could mean the team will reconsider their plans for the upcoming seasons. After all, it is quite rare for a team built like the Penguins to suddenly reverse the effects of age on their players.
