The Pittsburgh Penguins broke their 4 game losing streak last night against a struggling road team, the San Jose Sharks. The game was back and forth until the Penguins broke out with two goals and an empty net goal in the third to win 6-3.

The Penguins Are Just Five Points Out Of A Playoff Wild Card Position

Surprisingly to most, this win coupled with an Islanders lose, puts the Penguins just 5 points out of a playoff spot.

As the Penguins went 3-6-1 in their last 10 games, the playoffs were all but a dream. Now, that dream is not too far from reality.

According to moneypuck.com the odds for the Penguins making the playoffs were about 3%. Now, with the help of the wild card teams and their commitment to playing their brand of hockey, they feel good things can happen.

«The reality is we're still in it,» head coach Mike Sullivan said. «That's the conversation that we've had with the group almost daily.»

With Difficult Divisional Games Ahead The Penguins Look To Gain Ground With Wins

The Penguins still have some difficult divisional games ahead, which can be good if they can get the wins from them. It sounds like from the head coach and players the belief has never waned.

Last night against the Sharks, some of the roleplayers for the team stepped up with goals and assists. P.O. Joseph himself had 2 assists in the win.

«Things haven't been really good lately, and we know it,» P.O. Joseph said. «We want to battle through it and this victory definitely feels good.»

When asked about checking the standings, Joseph added:

«No clue what was going on. We just focus on our game and we don't really care what is going on outside this locker room.»

The Penguins Still Believe In Their Game And Have Confidence In Finishing The Season Strong

With the Pens having 17 games left in the season, there seems to still be some confidence left in the locker room. As long as they are not mathematically eliminated, they feel they have just as good a chance as any other team.
