A new interview featuring Rickard Rakell has revealed he was forced to decline an invite to the upcoming World Championship Tournament due to injury. The injury was a nagging one that hindered him for much of the year.

In the interview with Rickard Rakell, the Penguins forward reminisced over the recently completed season. He shared his disappointment and gave an inside look into the struggles the team faced.

«Obviously, it didn't go as well as I would have liked to,» Rakell said during the team's exit interviews in Cranberry on April 18. «It was an up-and-down season for me with some injuries at the start and just not producing at the level that I wanted.»

On Tuesday Rickard Rakell further revealed that he has a shoulder injury he is still recovering from. The injury forced him to turn down a spot with Team Sweden.

On Tuesday, in an interview with Swedish outlet Expressen, Rakell indicated he declined an offer to join Sweden's roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship tournament due to his ailing shoulder.

While Rickard Rakell struggled with this injury for most of the season he seems hopeful that his play will rebound back to his high expectations next season. On a more positive note, Rickard Rakell's teammate Marcus Pettersson will represent Sweden at the World Championships.

Marcus Pettersson has been added to Sweden's roster for the upcoming IIHF World Championship.

With a longer rest period and a fire lit under them hopefully Rickard Rakell, Marcus Pettersson, and the rest of the Penguins squad can rebound next season. Until then we wish Rickard Rakell the best with his recovery and rehab.
