As the Penguins prepare to host the surging New York Rangers tonight in an interesting tilt, they have decided to call up some new blood to the defeated roster and an amazing opportunity has emerged for a Penguins prospect to make his NHL debut.

Jack St. Ivany expected to make NHL debut

Penguins defensive prospect Jack St.Ivany has reportedly been called up from the Penguins farm team, WBS, and will be making his NHL debut tonight versus the Metropolitan powerhouse, the New York Rangers. The 24 year old has 4 goals and 8 assists in the AHL in 52 games this season. He brings on a huge presence on the blue line standing at 6 foot 3 inches and 188 pounds.

«It's very exciting,» he said of his first NHL call-up. «I wasn't expecting it, so a little bit of a whirlwind from yesterday, but I'm just ecstatic to be here.»

Coach Sullivan talked with the media about the recent callup and why he did it.

«Jack is obviously a right-handed defenseman, so that was one aspect that was part of the conversation,» Sullivan said. «The other aspect of it is he's played extremely well. He's been very good on the penalty kill, he's a solid defending defenseman, fairly mobile, good size, so I think he's going to bring that aspect – just a trustworthy, conscientious game – to our team.»

St. Ivany mentioned how after only second year pro, getting an opportunity like this is truly special.

«This being my second year pro, (I've been) able to make a lot of strides this year and be more confident out there,» he said. «I just think that's led to growth and me having confidence in all areas of my game.»
