Penguins playoff fate could be determined by Capitals and Red Wings

The Pittsburgh Penguins did what they need to last night by defeating the Nashville Predators, but unfortunately so did the Red Wings and Capitals. With their victories they remain one point ahead of the Penguins for that last playoff spot

Now with one more game remaining for all three teams, the path to the playoffs is clear. The Penguins need to beat the New York Islanders, and they need help from the Montreal Canadians as well as longtime rival, Philadelphia Flyers to do so.

With the Penguins win, they still do have a chance, but their playoff odds dropped with Detroit coming from behind to beat Montreal in OT and with the Washington Capitals shutting down one of the better teams in the East, the Boston Bruins, in a shutout victory.




Tonight will determine if the Penguins will control their own destiny, similar to last year, where they needed to win their final game to make the playoffs.

If both the Capitals and the Red Wings lose in regulation, then it will all come down to the Penguins vs Islanders in New York tomorrow night.
