24-year-old Penguins defenseman Jack St. Ivany is set to make his NHL debut tonight as the team visits the Dallas Stars. The moment has been a long-time coming for St. Ivany, who will be making his dreams come true tonight.

Penguins rookie to make debut against Dallas Stars

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed this morning that rookie defenseman Jack St. Ivany will be getting the nod for his first career NHL game tonight. When asked about the accomplishment, St. Ivany was a bit stunned that his dreams were finally coming true, but excited for the game.

St. Ivany on making his NHL debut later tonight in Dallas: "Pretty surreal. They told me this morning. I'm just really excited. I can't wait for tonight."

He repeatedly noted how surreal the moment felt. It will likely only get more surreal for him tonight as he takes the ice for his solo lap, even more so when he's defending the rush against Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson.

«They told me I was in and I saw my name on the lineup sheet.

Pretty surreal, really.»

The Penguins first called up St. Ivany awhile ago, but he's mainly been serving as insurance in case another defenseman can't go for whatever reason last minute. As such, he hasn't gotten a chance to get into any actual games yet. The reason why he slotted in tonight will bring a smile to Penguins fans as head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that defenseman Ryan Graves is in Pittsburgh awaiting the birth of his first child.

Coach Sullivan on Jack St. Ivany and Ryan Graves: "Jack's going to play tonight. The reason he's going to play tonight is because Ryan Graves did not make the trip with us. He remained back in Pittsburgh and is expecting his first child with his partner."

St. Ivany is not known for his offense. He has just 4 goals and 15 points in 53 games at the AHL level this season. However, his solid defensive game has earned him this opportunity. Hopefully he is able to stay at the NHL level for a long time.
