The Pittsburgh Penguins' rivals' , The Washington Capitals have made the playoffs but at what cost? It hasn't been easy against the President Trophy winner in the New York Rangers as they currently trail 2-0 in the series. Many online are slamming Alex Ovechkin online for his no show performance in the playoffs, former head coach Bruce Boudreau has stepped in and defended number 8.

It simply hasn't been good enough for the 38 year old in the 2024 NHL playoffs, with no goals or contributions and 0 shooting attempts in his first two games of the series versus the President's Trophy winner, New York Rangers. Ovechkin has been slammed all across social media for his lacklustre of play.

Bruce Boudreau, a former coach of the great 8, came to defense of him on the Athletic.

"Maybe he can't do it at 38 anymore where he can't crash, bang and do it with the energy that he used to do it," Boudreau said to The Athletic.

"But he's standing still getting pucks, and when he's standing still getting pucks, the Rangers are too quick. They come at you too fast. So he doesn't have time to get out of the way."

«So, to me, he's not engaged mentally right now. He wants to be, but he's not because he's frustrated and things aren't going the way he wants them to go."

If Alex Ovechkin doesn't find his game, this can be an early series for the Washington Capitals and a long summer ahead.
