As the trade deadline approaches the Pittsburgh Penguins have a major decision to make regarding Jake Guentzel. Today a report has linked Guentzel to a new home in yet another trade rumor.

Guentzel Connected To Eastern Conference Contender

The Eastern Conference is competitive this season with several teams jockeying to be the top team in the conference. One of those teams is the Carolina Hurricanes. In their pursuit of improving their roster they have now been linked to Jake Guentzel.




The Carolina Hurricanes have made moves the past several deadlines in pursuit of a Stanley Cup championship. This season is expected to be more of the same as the Hurricanes have one of the best teams out East but could benefit from added scoring. They also have exactly what the Penguins are looking for in return top prospects.

Who Could The Penguins Expect To Get In Return For Guentzel?

The Carolina Hurricanes are an organization that has done a phenomenal job of keeping its prospect pool filled while competing. This means they have several players who would likely be a good fit in a trade for Jake Guentzel.

Up front names such as Bradly Nadeau, Cruz Lucius, Alexander Perevalov, and Ryan Suzuki are a few names to keep an eye on. Nadeau and Lucius could both step in and be near the top of the Penguins forwards in the prospect pool.

On defense is where the Hurricanes system really shines. Scott Morrow, Alexander Nikishin, Simon Forsmark, Vladimir Grudinin, and Aleksi Heimosalmi would all provide major upgrades to the Penguins' defensive prospect pool.

If the Penguins come out with the best-case scenario they land two of these top prospects at least. This would bring a huge boost to the prospect pool and allow the Penguins to re-tool on the fly.
