The Pittsburgh Penguins had some movement during and before the trade deadline. The big move that we saw coming was Jake Guentzel.

According the Eliotte Friedman There Was One Forward Who Was Almost Traded to the LA Kings

There was one move that Elliotte Friedman reported on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that almost happened for another Penguin forward.

Reilly Smith was on his way to the LA Kings, but they were not able to make the move because of cap restrictions.

«There was a lot of competition for Toffoli,» Friedman said. «There were a lot of rumours about LA LA was also interested in Reilly Smith; they just didn't have any room to do anything.»

Smith Was In Conversations With the Kings And His Old Team The Golden Knights

Reilly Smith's name was in conversation in the days before the deadline. He was also linked in a move to send him back to his old team, the Golden Knights.

The Kings just did not have the cap space with Adrien Kempe returning from injury, which appears why they were pretty quiet this year before the deadline.

After all was said and done with the trades, Kyle Dubas had mentioned that the Penguins will be working to improve over the summer. So, a deal for Reilly Smith is not completely out of the question in the off season.

We will see what the summer brings for the Penguins, it could be a busy one.
