Tonight a trade has been officially finalized between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks. The trade is finalized now after a player in the deal's conditions have been worked out. Rem Pitlick was traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional 7th-rounder.

The trade between the two sides was supposed to land the Pittsburgh Penguins a 7th-round pick. The only catch was that Rem Pitlick would need to play 30 games.

TRADE: #Blackhawks acquire Rem Pitlick from #LetsGoPens for a conditional 2026 7th round pick

Unfortunately for the Pittsburgh Penguins Rem Pitlick spent much of his time in the AHL while with Chicago and will not meet the games requirement. This means that the Pittsburgh Penguins essentially gave Rem Pitlick away for free.

I interrupt the eclipse content to bring you some earthshaking Blackhawks news:

The 2026 7th-round pick the Hawks traded to the Penguins for Rem Pitlick had a condition of Pitlick playing 30 NHL games, per source. He only played nine, so the Hawks will keep the pick after all.

While this is not devastating news as 7th-round picks are unlikely to hit anyway it is still frustrating. Hopefully, the Penguins have other plans as to how to g et more draft picks. With their first-round pick likely heading to San Jose the Penguins will need as many depth picks as they can get their hands on.
