The Penguins could be falling out of contention for the playoffs for the second year in a row. With that to consider, and the number of years Crosby has to play at a top level, it may be time to think about selling off the top player on the team.

Crosby to Consider Waiving No-Movement Clause for Two Western Teams

According to the New World Oilers Podcast, there are some rumors circulating that Crosby would consider waiving his no-movement clause for two specific teams in the Western Conference. One team is the Colorado Avalanche, possibly due to his link with Nathan Mackinnon. The second team could be the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers would provide Crosby the opportunity to play with Connor McDavid and for a team that potentially will have a long playoff run.

Sid is playing outstanding hockey this season, showing no signs of slowing down. He has 27 goals and 50 points in 46 games, with a chance for a 100-point season.
He may want the opportunity while he can, to play for a team that is a real potential for a Cup, especially if he joins that team. But with an $8.7 million dollar price tag, his contract could be very difficult to move, if it was on the table.

Crosby, now 36-years-old, has mentioned that he would not want to leave Pittsburgh. He would command a huge return for the Penguins if he was traded. The likelihood is very slim that this would happen, but if he wants another Cup it may be his best option.
