Dubas and the Pens could open auction for Jake Guentzel

The Pittsburgh Penguins are bracing themselves for an eventful month and a half as the team is trying to get themselves in the playoffs and comfortably. The question remains the same, what are the Penguins going to do with Jake Guentzel?

Will the Penguins extend Jake Guentzel?

So far there has been zero dialogue between the Penguins and Guentzel based on an extension. Guentzel and his camp as well as GM Kyle Dubas want to wait to see the direction the Penguins will go closer to the deadline. If they're out of a playoff spot, he can be on the move. Even if they are in the playoffs, there's a chance that they trade him if an extension is not reached before February 28th.

Teams interested in Guentzel

Many teams will call the Penguins, and GM Kyle Dubas will make the best offer win. Prepare for an auction. Teams like Rangers, Oilers and Knights will all look to add an elite forward like Jake Guentzel. However, the leading team seems to be the Canucks. The Penguins and Canucks love doing business together and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford is no stranger to Jake Guentzel. The asking price for Guentzel would probably be a first round pick, top prospect and top 6 forward (Kuzmenko Music). Intriguing times ahead in Pittsburgh!

More details to come.
