Sidney Crosby is a highly respected veteran across the league. He's labelled as one of the greatest to ever do it, and has a clean track record which makes many amongst him have the utmost respect for him. During the All Star break, Sid called on a rule change regarding the playoff format.

Crosby calls on playoff format

Sidney Crosby said in an interview when he was asked what is one rule he would change.
Sidney Crosby says he'd change the league to go with a 1-8 playoff format. Says it rewards teams for the regular season better

That would remove the «wildcard process» and allow the league to move forward with conference seeding from 1-8. A topic that most fans are in agreement with.

The current rule of the NHL format is the following:

The division winner with the best record in each conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lesser record.
The wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner.
The teams finishing second and third in each division will meet within the bracket headed by their respective division winners.

The playoff format is due for a change

Every year, teams with more points than playoff teams miss out because of the NHL's wildcard format. we can see a team in the Metro making the second wildcard spot with 91 points, and a team can miss the playoffs in the Atlantic with 95 points because the teams ahead of them have more. It's a rule that needs to change.
