Trade - This transaction could save the Pens' third line

Yesterday night, Jeff Marek announced the Philadelphia Flyers have just made James van Riemsdyk available. Van Riemsdyk is a left winger and currently has 11 points in 12 games this season, and he could be the solution for the Pens' third line, that has been showing weakness in the last little while.

Van Riemsdyk is 6-foot-3, 217 pounds, and is the net-front presence on the Flyers' power play. He had ten power-play goals last season and 19 over the last two. As a big man in front of the net, JVR would give the Penguins an element they have not had in a few seasons.

On paper, JVR would be a great fit for the Pens. The only issue is, he would be quite hard to acquire because the Pens, as playoffs contenders, are pretty tight against the salary cap. With his $7 million-a-year contract, Pittsburgh would have to give something of value in exchange, to free cap space and also because JVR has a great level of production; he's a valuable player.
