Reporter asks Sullivan what he thinks of the third line: "We have higher expectations"

It is no secret that the Pens' third line has been lacking this season. Even though the team is doing pretty well, the third is just not working as well as the others.

On paper, this line shouldn't have any problem scoring goals and impacting the game: Kapanen is fast and very talented, he has the potential to be very impactful and dangerous around the opposite team's net. McGinn as proved he can score goals and play good, while Carter has 821-career points, which proves he knows the secret to getting points. When we take a glance at what happens on ice, it's just not it: their season record is 5 goals for and 11 against so far.

Here's what Sullivan said when asked about the trio:

«There have been some nights they've been pretty good. On other nights, we have higher expectations. We're trying to figure out our bottom-six right now, based on the health of our group.»

Kapanen also had the chance to speak about the situation:

«I do think we take a good amount of D-zone faceoffs. So getting out of there and taking care of that end of the rink (is important),» said Kapanen. «Obviously, I'd like to think that I've got some talent, and (McGinn) does, and so does Cartsy. I mean, he has 1,200 games and 800 points or whatever So if we can just get more offense and get some goals, that would be a bonus.»

It seems like the key to their success is not unknown, and certainly not very far. It could be a question of momentum; once they're going to get goals, it'll be beneficial for the momentum and we're going to see less of these "lows" Sully has spoken about.
