Big surprise as former 1st round pick has been placed on waivers

Red Wings GM announced today that Detroit have placed former first-round's pick Jakub Vrana on waivers.

Vrana's contract has a $5.25M AAV thru 23-24. He recorded 91 goals and 189 points in 323 games in the NHL. Vrana had originally been picked 14th during the first round of the 2014 NHL draft by the Capitals. Now, should the Pens go for him? Maybe. But can they? Not really. Vrana is an impactful player but he has a price, and reporter Taylor Haase has been really clear about it, Pittsburgh doesn't have the cap space.
