I can't imagine that it is easy to be a security guard, much less deal with rowdy fans at an event like a pro hockey game. Additionally, security officers are often subject to inappropriate, sometimes dangerous behaviour at the hands of devoted sports fans. However, there is much controversy surrounding the idea of employees using excessive force.

Following the Maple Leafs loss to Colorado, one such incident occurred that raises this question once again. A private security guard was involved in an altercation which left a member of the public face down on the concourse floor and leaking blood. Video of the altercation can be found below.

Excessive Force or Necessary?

Although it is not known what exactly the individual did to warrant this action, the Toronto Police Department made a statement saying that they responded to an alleged assault at the Scotiabank Centre.

Throughout the video, you can hear other fans crying out for the security guard to let up on the person who appeared to be resisting. Many feel the actions of the guard were excessive.

I can't imagine a situation where it is warranted to stomp on someone's head at a professional hockey game, but the Maple Leafs Organization is investigating the situation. They've stated that they are aware of the incident and are looking into it.
