The Pittsburgh Penguins made a huge move this year when they traded Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes. Now it seems that the team could be looking to bring him back as they look to get back to the playoffs.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed today on 32 thoughts that he believes the Penguins will make a strong puh to bring Guentzel back to the team, assuming the Hurricanes do not re-sign him before they lose his rights on July 1st.«If Guentzel hits the market, it would be a stunner if the Penguins didn't try to bring him back.»
That being said, Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell has stated that he believes the team will be able to bring Guentzel back on a contract extension, presumably for the foreseeable future.
«I'm optimistic about it. Our success here will dictate a little bit of that Our goal would be to try and sign him.»

Guentzel and the Hurricanes took a one-nothing lead over the New York Islanders tonight in their first-round playoff matchup. Guentzel did not record a single point in the game, nor did he record a shot on goal. However, that did not matter as the Islanders managed just a single goal themselves.
Fellow trade deadline acquisition Evgeni Kuznetsov had a huge impact in the game, scoring the opening goal and assisting on Stefan Noesen's go-ahead goal to make it 2-1, a lead the team would not give up the rest of the way.
KUZY GETS THE CANES ON THE BOARD EARLY! 🚨
Whether or not the Hurricanes are able to bring Guentzel back remains to be seen. It may very well depend on how the team does during this year's playoff run. Be sure to stay tuned to see where Guentzel ends up next season. It very well may be back in Pittsburgh.
