Former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray could be nearing a return to the NHL after he has been called up for the first time since April of 2023, where he suffered a season long hip injury. With the Leafs currently in desperation mode, this can also mean the last chance for goaltender Ilya Samsonov after his disasterous game one.

While the Toronto Maple Leafs do have many goalies at their disposal it looks like they have officially added another. They have recalled goaltender Matt Murray from his conditioning stint with the Marlies today after spending the entire year on LTIR with a hip injury. There is nothing Matt Murray loves more than playoff hockey.. ask him about the 2017 NHL playoffs when the Pittsburgh Penguins hoisted the Stanley Cup where he beat Marc Andre Fleury out of the starter's spot!

It would be nostalgic for many Penguins fans to watch Matt Murray in the playoffs seven years later in a different uniform, it is safe to say we will all be rooting for him and will be extremely happy to see the former Penguin back on the ice doing what he does best.
