Former Penguin Phil Kessel was seen over the last two weeks practicing with the Vancouver Canucks' AHL team, the Abbastsford Canucks. Fans seemed concerned that he wouldn't receive an NHL gig due to the time it has taken to agree on an NHL contract. Insider Rick Dhaliwal gave an update.

Canucks leave tab open on Kessel

The Canucks have not closed the tab on Phil Kessel. Their plan has been to let him find his game and get used to the professional level at the Canucks' affiliates practices. Rick Dhaliwal, Canucks trusted insider said this on the topic of Phil the Thril:
"I am not hearing anything negative when it comes to the Canucks and Kessel. He will continue to work out this week, all sides want this to end with a signing. The goal was always to sign Kessel, I think that's where it's trending."

It's clear the Canucks won't be adding 2016-17 Phil Kessel, but they will be getting an extremely well respected leader, veteran and a depth forward who can find the net.

Adding Kessel to your bottom 6 fold, gives you lots of talent and chances for a team in the postseason, especially when top guys like JT Miller, Pettersson and Boeser fail to find the scoresheet.

We as Penguins Latest, are super happy to see Kessel get a shot again.
