Bryan Rust is the Topic of Multiple Teams, with the Red Wings Showing the Most Interest
As we get closer to Friday's trade deadline, many possible trades seem to be appearing. Recently, it was reported by Josh Yohe of The Athletic that the Red Wings «have shown the most interest» in acquiring veteran Penguins winger Bryan Rust.GM Kyle Dubas has told the media in his press conference last month that he has not asked anyone to waive their no-trade clause. This would include Rust.

With Guentzel at the Top of the Possible Trade Radar, Rust Could Still be a Hot Target Moving Forward
As the Penguins struggle in the standings, it is becoming clear that they will be sellers. With arguably the best pending UFA on the market available in Guentzel, the prospects expected in return for him should help make the Penguins a younger team. Dealing Rust now as well, would be a downgrade, as the team does not plan a full rebuild with Crosby in the mix.
Rust is signed to a manageable $5.125 Million on the cap, and through the 2028 season. His no trade clause extends to July 1st, 2025. If Rust stays put, it would not be a total surprise for the Red Wings to keep an eye on the Michigan native if they are unable to snag him now. The Red Wings could also produce some young prospects in return for Rust, if a deal is completed.
Injuries Have Plagued Rust This Year but His Production Still Stands Out
Rust has only managed to play in 42 games this season. Still, he has bounced back from a sub-par 2022-23 year with 18 goals and 18 assists.
If the Red Wings maintain their interest in the forward, he could be a valuable replacement for Patrick Kane in the top six. Kane will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after only signing a one-year deal for $2.75 million.
