Top Prospect Comes up Huge for Wilkes Barre

One of the Penguins top prospects came up huge once again for Wilkes Barre, the Penguins farm team. Samuel Poulin is continuing his hot streak with his fourth goal in a fourth consecutive game.

Sam Poulin should get called up

It feels like Sam Poulin is due for an NHL stint and opportunity. The former first round draft pick took a leave of absence in the 2022-23 season for personal reasons.

This year he has 11 points in 17 games with WBS in the AHL, and has been slowly finding his game.


The 6'2 208 pound forward will bring size, skill and goal scoring to this Penguins team and could make Penguins fans forget that Reilly Smith is injured. The Quebec Native scored a big goal in tonight's game which helped carry the Baby Penguins to victory.

Prospects take time

Despite being full of potential and considered to be amongst the top prospects in the system, Poulin's NHL career hasn't panned out yet. Although we still think it's too early to give up on Sam Poulin.

Certain prospects take longer to blossom than others. An excellent example of this is Tage Thompson who only began his dominance at the NHL level in the last year or so, after being drafted first round in 2017. It seems like patience will be key for both Sam Poulin and the Penguins front office.

We will watch his development closely, and hope that he will make the jump back to the NHL in the near future!
