Pittsburgh Penguins Netminder on the move?

Published January 8, 2024 at 7:16 PM

The Los Angeles Kings goaltender Pheonix Copley suffered a season ending knee injury on December 15th during the teams morning skate. The American Native had a disappointing start to the year posting up a .880 save percentage in 8 appearances.

LA Kings GM will be calling teams

It's no secret that their are teams across the league trying to make a goalie carousel happen. Whether its Jake Allen, Kaapo Kahkonen or Elvis Merzlikins, teams have made their goalies available. These names seem intriguing but LA simply would have a hard time striking a deal due to their cap constraints.

Kings looking for an Affordable Goalie

Given their cap situation, we wonder if GM Rob Blake calls Kyle Dubas concerning Alex Nedeljkovic. The 28 year old is having himself a solid campaign putting up a .917 save percentage throughout 13 showings. The Ohio Native is on an expiring deal with an 1.5 million AAV.

No sense of Urgency as of right Now

Although the Kings would like to improve their net, nothing is imminent on any deal surrounding a goalie. Ironically, this is amazing timing as the Penguins are still pushing for the playoffs. However, in a month or two, if the Penguins see themselves falling out of the playoffs then Kyle Dubas isn't afraid of capitalizing on the hot market and putting themselves in the sellers seat. Only then is when we may see the Penguins dealing Alex Nedeljkovic.

Until then, I wouldn't expect anything to come to fruition between the LA Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

More details to come.
