Penguins Insider Reveals the Worst for Jake Guentzel and the Penguins

As trade talks continue throughout the league, the Penguins are Dubas are still in a wait and see mode. Will the Penguins end up being buyers or sellers? The biggest question on the minds of Pens fans is, what will happen with Jake Guentzel.

As Guentzel is riding out the last year of his contract, the biggest talk around town is what will Kyle Dubas do with the high-scoring forward.

Insider Rob Rossi Believes That the Penguins will Get Big Value for Trading Guentzel Now

Rob Rossi of the Athletic does not believe this is as difficult of a decision as it is being made out to be. He thinks that Dubas will shoot for the biggest return possible for Jake Guentzel.


Rossi wrote in his article for the Athletic;



There were previously rumored talks that the Penguins want a draft pick, a prospect and an NHL ready player, and the belief that Rossi has is that they can easily get those, or even do better.

Dubas has mentioned that talks between himself and the Guentzel camp, including agent Ben Hankinson, have not happened. That is true, talks have yet to have even started. The idea over the summer was to see how Guentzel would return after ankle injury, focusing on that. As it turned out, he returned in time to play opening night.

Guentzel has put together an outstanding year, at times leading the team in points. He currently has 22 goals and 27 assists, totaling 49 points over a 46 game span. He is just behind Crosby on the team with 50 points.

Dubas is still debating on the direction that he wants to take the team. But, as Rossi states, a deal for Guentzel does not mean the Penguins are throwing in the towel on the season. The return for the All-Star level of talent that Guentzel has can keep them right in contention for a playoff bid.
